A timer is a low-tech device that can be used for many different tasks. A timer can be used to encourage a student to work quickly or to tell a student when to stop working/task. Timers are a good visual representation for students who struggle with self-regulation or telling time. Most timers also have a ding/chime or vibration that accompany time running out. These timers can be purchased from any office supply store or magazine and, depending on the size, range from $6-$35 dollars.

Thera-Bands are a great low-tech sensory tool to use for students. There are many ways Thera-Bands can be used in the classroom, during Occupational therapy sessions, and during Physical Therapy sessions. The most popular way to use a Thera-band is when the band is tightly wrapped around the two front legs of a student's chair. This acts as a source of resistance for children who struggle with sitting still or who have sensory needs.
